Mount Kenya Climb

Welcome and transfer to the town of Naru Moru.

Dinner and night at Mt Kenya Leisure Lodge (or equivalent) 230 kms: approximately 4 hours drive.

Transfer at the entrance of Mt Kenya park.

We begin the mountain ascent using the Sirimon route for a gentle warm-up. The trail winds through a tropical forest populated with rosewood, bamboos and heathers. The area is inhabited by elephants and buffaloes.

We reach the Sirimon Gate (2 650 m), then Old Moses (3 300 m). After 3 to 4 hours of hiking, we arrive at the refuge for a good night's rest.

Our day begins early in the morning. We depart from Old Moses at 3300 meters altitude in the direction of Shipton Camp located at 4200 meters. We start our walk through picturesque landscapes, crossing fields of giant lobelias and stretches of heather. As we progress, the majestic peaks of Mount Kenya slowly reveal themselves before us: Lenana, Batian and Lenion, offering a breathtaking spectacle.

After approximately 7 to 8 hours of hiking, we finally reach our refuge at Shipton Camp. The fatigue from the climb is quickly dispelled by the view that unfolds before us: the imposing peaks that stand proudly against the sky, offering a stunning panorama. Each peak seems to tell an ancient story, steeped in mystery and grandeur, while we savor this moment of peace and contemplation in the heart of the wild nature of Mount Kenya.

Today, we embark on the trail leading to the Austrian Hut, perched at 4700 meters above sea level. This refuge, also known as Top Hut, is a haven of tranquility nestled in the heart of the imposing peaks of Mount Kenya. For approximately 6 hours, we take a steep trail that winds through breathtaking landscapes, stunning beauty surrounding us.

As we ascend, we witness the majesty of nature, with the summit of Mount Kenya standing tall, imposing and majestic nearby. The trail reserves visual surprises at every turn, with breathtaking panoramas and breathtaking views of the alpine valleys below. Throughout the journey, we are accompanied by the presence of a few persistent glaciers, eternal witnesses to the eternity of the mountain.

Upon reaching the Austrian Hut, we are rewarded with an unobstructed view of the surrounding peaks and the prospect of the adventure that awaits us. It is a place where the grandeur of nature meets human perseverance, and where each step brings us closer to the coveted summit of Mount Kenya

This is the longest and most difficult stage of the trek. Plan for approximately 10 hours of hiking in total.

We wake up before dawn at 3:00 AM, filled with excitement and determination, ready to undertake the final ascent to Lenana Peak, culminating at 4,985 meters altitude. Under the starry sky, we begin our ascent with energy and enthusiasm, guided by the glow of headlamps piercing through the surrounding darkness.

The trail leading to Lenana Peak holds challenges and unforgettable discoveries for us. We progress through lunar landscapes, crossing steep slopes and rocky passages, each step bringing us closer to our ultimate objective. The sensation of altitude makes itself felt, but our determination remains intact as we continue to climb the final meters to the summit.

As the sun slowly rises on the horizon, illuminating the surrounding peaks with a golden glow, we finally reach the summit of Lenana Peak. The view before us is simply breathtaking: snow-capped peaks stretching as far as the eye can see, deep valleys and clouds floating like cotton sheets in the sky. It is a moment of triumph and emotion as we celebrate our success and admire the pure and wild beauty surrounding us.

Having reached the summit, we admire the view of the two other peaks forming Mount Kenya: Batian and Nelion. The hike takes approximately 3 hours.

We then descend towards the Teleki Hut site. Fatigue gradually sets in during the 2 hours of walking. Along the way, we pass by Lewis Glacier and Austrian Hut. After a rest stop, we resume the descent towards Met Station refuge, at 3,050 m altitude, where we spend the night.

Long descent through the forest to the gate. Last glimpse of the mountain through dense vegetation. It will be possible to see antelopes and monkeys. We undertake an easy descent for approximately 2 hours, passing through the forest to the gate.

We say goodbye to our support team, and take the vehicles towards Nairobi. Brief stop along the way for lunch. Upon arrival in Nairobi, check-in at the hotel for a restful night.

This morning, you head towards the Nakuru Lake National Park, located on the shores of the famous lake of the same name. The mountain roads reveal a new, more agricultural landscape. Although the distance is short, the travel time is not always as it seems, as the roads are not always easy to navigate, but that's all part of the adventure!

A picnic is planned along the way.

Once you arrive on site, you begin your exploration of the Nakuru Lake National Park. You then discover a landscape totally different from that of the Masai Mara. Nakuru Lake is renowned for hosting over 400 species of birds, including flamingos, African fish eagles, white pelicans, woolly-necked storks, and many others.

Beyond this rich birdlife, the park is also renowned for its rhinoceros populations, which make it its second major attraction. Also be attentive to cheetahs, lions, hyenas, buffalo, hippopotamuses, zebras, giraffes, and other species that inhabit the region and come to drink in the lake's waters.

Road to Lake Naivasha.

Embark on a boat adventure to the island of Crescent Island. During your journey, you will have the opportunity to observe a variety of birds inhabiting the shores of the lake, such as the fish eagle, cormorants and pelicans.

Once on the island, enjoy a pleasant walk discovering the local fauna and birdlife for nearly two hours, or more, at your own pace. Take advantage of a mini-safari on foot, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in nature.

Back on the boat, you will be able to observe the shores where hippopotamuses are found, completing this beautiful experience.

Head south, towards the Amboseli reserve located in south-central Kenya, in the heart of the legendary Great Rift Valley. Being the second most visited reserve in Kenya, this protected area fascinates travelers because of its rich and varied wildlife. You will encounter there, among others, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, hippopotamuses, antelopes, warthogs and herds of elephants.

As a bonus, the site offers a superb view of Kilimanjaro
