The lodge was built by June Zwager in collaboration with the local community and a team of skilled craftspeople. The buildings combine locally sourced stones with wood from acacia, olive and Leleshwa trees, all obtained sustainably. Every piece of furniture was handcrafted on-site, making each unique.

Its location within the Oserengoni sanctuary is the other major asset: wildlife roams freely around the cottages, and safaris depart directly from the lodge without long transfers.

Atmosphere and décor

The dining room, lounge and bar are punctuated by pillars, murals, African sculptures and antiques, all set against ochre walls. The decorative language remains coherent throughout the lodge: raw materials, original artworks, patterned rugs.

Aperitifs are willingly enjoyed facing the sunset over the plains and Mau escarpment, or by the lakeside. In the evening, a wood fire extends the day after safari returns.

The lodge features eight cottages with views over the Rift Valley escarpment and sanctuary. Each is designed in wood and stone, with an open veranda overlooking the landscape.

Dining and services

The cuisine offers varied dishes: pizzas cooked in charcoal ovens, smoked beef fillets and multicultural preparations. Meals can be served indoors by the wood fire, candlelit under the stars or poolside. Breakfast is served in the shade of acacias by the lake, with views of hippos in the distance.

Amenities include a heated pool, library, garden, sitting area, bar, and complimentary Wi-Fi and private parking. An airport shuttle is available for an additional fee.

Location and access

Chui Lodge is located in the Oserengoni reserve, near Naivasha, a short distance from Crater Lake sanctuary. Plan on 2 to 2.5 hours by paved road from Nairobi to the reserve entrance. An air alternative exists: a 20-minute flight from Wilson Airport to Loldia airstrip, approximately 20 minutes from the lodge. Private charters can also be arranged.

Safaris in the Oserengoni sanctuary

Day and night 4x4 excursions allow you to observe leopards, lions, Grevy's zebras, impalas, spotted hyenas and black-backed jackals in their natural habitat.

Bird watching

The sanctuary is home to over 400 bird species. Around Lake Naivasha, aquatic birds include pied kingfishers, goliath herons and pink flamingos.
