4-star lodge partially built into rock formations on the western shore of Lake Baringo: 86 rooms, exceptional ornithological biodiversity.

On the western shore of Lake Baringo, in Kenya's Rift Valley, Soi Safari Lodge occupies a rare position: its architecture integrates partially into the rocks that dominate the shoreline. This 4-star hotel features 86 rooms and appeals equally to safari travelers and seminar groups.

Why choose Soi Safari Lodge

Three elements distinguish the lodge from other accommodations in the region. First, its location: the buildings are partly built into the rock formations that border the lake, an architectural approach that reduces the establishment's visual footprint on the landscape. Next, its interior spaces: natural stone floors and tall thatched ceilings, complemented by furnishings and decorations that showcase African craftsmanship. Finally, its direct access to Lake Baringo and its ornithological biodiversity, one of Kenya's richest.

The lodge works equally well for nature stays and professional events, with two conference rooms and an executive meeting room lakeside, flexible for 10 to 200 people.

Atmosphere and setting

The grounds spread around a tree-lined avenue at the entrance and descend toward the shore between acacias and rocky expanses. An Olympic-sized pool sits behind the main building, oriented toward the lake. The hall and bar maintain a classic lodge feel, with leather seating and large windows opening onto the outdoors.

The atmosphere remains peaceful: the site is away from the main tourist routes in the south of the country, making it a more contemplative stop than a typical safari lodge. Evenings unfold generally around the restaurant or on the terrace, listening to the sounds of the lake.

The rooms

The 86 rooms are distributed across three wings:

  • Main wing: near reception, bar, and restaurant.
  • Suswa wing: overlooking the garden and rocks.
  • Reed wing: closest to the lake.

Connecting rooms are available for families and groups, and certain units are equipped for people with reduced mobility. All feature private bathrooms and air conditioning.

Dining and services

The restaurant offers African cuisine served in a four-course format, with the option to dine indoors or outdoors depending on weather. A bar-lounge completes the offering and room service is available.

For services, the lodge provides Wi-Fi connection, a beauty salon, and the meeting spaces mentioned above. Reception staff speak English and Swahili, and English-speaking assistance is available upon prior request.

Location and access

Soi Safari Lodge is located on the western shore of Lake Baringo, north of Nakuru. From Nairobi, allow half a day's drive via the Rift Valley. Air arrival is possible: a landing strip is less than 2 km from the lodge and a helipad is available for private transfers.

What to see and do nearby

Lake Baringo

Spanning 168 km², the lake is home to over 470 recorded bird species, making it one of East Africa's major ornithological sites. Hippopotamuses and crocodiles are also found here. Seven islands dot the water, including Devil's Island, linked to several local accounts. Boat outings allow you to observe wildlife and meet the Njemps fishermen, who practice traditional fishing from lightweight boats.

When to visit

Bird watching is worthwhile year-round, with peaks during dry season (June to October, then January-February), periods when tracks remain passable and migratory bird concentrations are strong between November and April.

Meeting communities

Several lakeside villages can be visited with the lodge's arrangement, notably to understand fishing techniques and the social organization of the Njemps.

Continue your journey

Lake Baringo fits naturally into an itinerary combining Kenya's major parks. To extend the experience, you can reach the Samburu Sopa Lodge to the north, or head back south toward the Ngulia Lodge and Satao Camp in the Tsavo ecosystem. For the great migration, Mara Olapa Camp remains a reference stop.
