Loita Hills Basecamp
Loita Hills Basecamp
Base camp in the Loita Hills (Kenya), accessible by 4x4 from Narok, for nature and cultural immersion in Maasai territory.
Loita Hills Basecamp is a base camp situated in the Loita Hills, a remote area of western Kenya, near the Tanzanian border, on ancestral Maasai lands. The establishment positions itself as an anchor point for immersion in a natural and community setting, far from conventional tourist circuits. Accommodation offers two options: cottage rooms or safari dome tents, as well as a pitch for travelers with their own tent.
Why stay here
We've selected this camp for travelers seeking to venture beyond beaten paths and experience genuine fieldwork in one of East Africa's least-visited regions. It suits those comfortable with rustic accommodation, keen to explore on foot and connect with local Maasai communities. This is no standard safari lodge: it's a basecamp, designed to serve as a launchpad for outdoor and cultural immersion experiences.
Meals are prepared on-site using local produce, with the opportunity to discover traditional Maasai cuisine — meat broths and cornmeal flatbreads notably. We recommend checking with the team regarding available full-board packages.
Atmosphere
The camp's atmosphere is understated and grounded in the landscape: nature, silence and interactions with local inhabitants shape your stay. Mobile connectivity is severely limited in this area, making it an ideal setting for genuine disconnection. Evenings at altitude are cool, with the ambiance of an authentic bush camp rather than a developed hotel establishment. Note: urban facilities are virtually non-existent in the immediate vicinity; it's advisable to bring sufficient cash and medications before leaving Narok.
Accommodation
The camp offers two types of lodging: cottage rooms or safari dome tents, both available in double, twin or triple configuration, accommodating up to three adults and two children. Overlanders traveling with their own equipment can opt for a simple camping pitch. Comfort is functional and suited to stays in isolated settings.

- On-site meals prepared with local produce (full-board packages to be confirmed with the team)

Planning your stay
This camp fits into a tailor-made itinerary for travelers wishing to explore Kenya's lesser-visited regions; don't hesitate to discuss it with our English-speaking local specialists to best organize transfers and stopovers around this destination.
