Mara Olapa Camp comprises six safari tents in Lolgorien, on the western border of Maasai Mara. Without fencing, powered by solar panels and guarded day and night by Maasai Moran warriors, the camp emphasizes a discreet presence in the savanna rather than standardized hotel comfort.

Camp atmosphere

The atmosphere is that of a bush camp: no perimeter wall, no excessive lighting, tents set beneath trees and connected by pathways. Life centers around the lounge tent and campfire, where staff and Maasai Moran share daily life with guests. At night, you hear wildlife in the distance — a common situation in the Mara that requires strict adherence to circulation guidelines given upon arrival.

The tents

The camp has six safari tents, each with a private veranda, full bathroom (safari-style shower, toilet, vanity, safe) and beds dressed in white Egyptian cotton linens. Daily housekeeping is provided. Tents are set in the shade to remain cool during the day.

A family tent is available: two bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom and a fireplace with open hearth for cool evenings. Non-smoking tents and some with outdoor patios complete the range.

Dining and services

Meals are served à la carte in the dining room. At breakfast, the team offers continental, English or Asian dishes. For full-day safaris, gourmet picnics are prepared on request. In-tent service covers beverages, breakfast and meals.

Evenings revolve around aperitifs under the stars or by the campfire, in the company of the Maasai Moran. Free Wi-Fi, secure parking and airport shuttle are provided.

Location and access

The camp is located in Lolgorien, in the western sector of Maasai Mara, near Kaboso Crossing, Double Cross and the Musiara marshes — three sites renowned for observing large predators and, in season, wildebeest river crossings.

Two access options are available. By air: Musiara airstrip is the closest, with Ol Kiombo airport about ten kilometers away. By road: allow approximately five hours from Nairobi, then use the Sekenani, Talek or Musiara gates depending on your entry point.

When to visit

Maasai Mara can be visited year-round, but two windows stand out. From July to October, the Great Migration concentrates herds of wildebeest and zebras in the reserve, with Mara River crossings — this is peak season and should be booked well in advance. From January to March, the savanna is green after the short rains, resident wildlife remains very active and visitor numbers decline. The long rains of April-May complicate the tracks.
