Samburu Riverside Camp is a tented camp located in Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya, along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Approximately 22 km from Archers Post, the establishment is managed by the Samburu community, a pastoralist people of northern Kenya and cousins of the Maasai, yet with a distinct cultural identity (language, adornments, social organization).

Dining and services

The base package is full board: three home-cooked meals daily, plus morning tea and coffee service delivered either to your tent or in the dining area. The kitchen prioritizes fresh, seasonal produce. A half-board option (breakfast and dinner) is also available.

On the services side, the camp features a bar-lounge, parking, and can arrange airport transfers or vehicle rental for your movements around the reserve. The camp can also host a traditional Samburu-style wedding ceremony on request.

Samburu Riverside Camp is situated in Samburu National Reserve, approximately 22 km from Archers Post, a small way station in northern Kenya. Access is typically by road from Nairobi (allow a full day for transfer) or by domestic flight to the reserve's airstrips, followed by a short road transfer.

When to visit

Samburu Reserve is accessible year-round, though two periods stand out:

• Dry seasons (June–October and December–March): wildlife concentrates around the Ewaso Nyiro, tracks are passable, and this is the best window for sightings.
• Rainy seasons (April–May and November): vegetation is lush, landscapes greener, though some tracks may be challenging. Excellent period for birdwatching with the arrival of migrant species.

Samburu National Reserve and its neighboring reserves form one of northern Kenya's finest wildlife complexes. Within immediate reach of the camp:

• Buffalo Springs National Reserve: adjacent to Samburu, it can be visited in a day trip and nicely complements your wildlife observations.
