Kenya boasts some of the most beautiful beaches on the African continent. Bordered by the Indian Ocean, the eastern coast holds paradisiacal stretches of sand where turquoise waters, pristine white sand, and lush vegetation create striking contrasts. So, ready to discover Kenya's most beautiful beaches?

1. Diani beach

Located around 30 km south of Mombasa, Diani beach is undoubtedly Kenya's most famous beach. Voted several times as one of Africa's top seaside destinations, Diani beach looks straight out of a postcard: 17 km of white sand, giant palm trees and verdant vegetation, turquoise waters…

With a coral reef surrounding the turquoise lagoon, Diani beach is also an ideal spot for snorkeling enthusiasts.

2. Tiwi beach

Just a few kilometers north of Diani beach lies the peaceful Tiwi beach. More secluded than other beaches, Tiwi beach is situated in the small village of Kwale. Less popular than Diani beach, Tiwi beach nonetheless has plenty to offer with its golden sand bordered by palm trees and turquoise waters.

What we love? It has managed to preserve a wild atmosphere and a laid-back vibe. It's therefore the ideal spot to relax away from the tourist crowds. You'll find very few restaurants and shops here, but rather fishermen's houses and a few private villas.

3. Nyali beach

Still in the vicinity of Mombasa, don't miss Nyali beach. It too has all the ingredients of a dream destination: snow-white sand, crystal-clear water and giant palm trees. What makes it special? Popular with locals (mostly from Mombasa), Nyali beach is more authentic than other seaside resorts.

Its shallow lagoon is particularly appreciated by snorkeling enthusiasts. It's also an ideal spot for surfing and kitesurfing.

4. Manda beach

Head to Kenya's northern coast to discover Manda beach. Located in the Lamu archipelago on Manda Island, Manda beach is renowned for its peaceful atmosphere. Accessible only by boat, it's far less crowded than other Kenyan beaches. You'll find a long stretch of fine sand as well as a magnificent mangrove forest.

Beyond swimming, the beach is ideal for surfing, kitesurfing (home to the country's largest school) and snorkeling. It's also one of the best beaches for watching the sunset (due to its rare western exposure on the Kenyan coast).

5. Watamu beach

We continue our journey discovering Kenya's most beautiful beaches at Watamu. This charming fishing village is home to dream beaches famous for their vast expanses of white sand. Among them are Garoda Beach, Turtle Bay, Blue Lagoon Bay and Watamu Bay.

Located around 1 km offshore from Watamu, Watamu Marine National Park is home to nearly 600 fish species and over 100 coral species. It's therefore the perfect place to dive and snorkel in Kenya.

6. Chale Beach

Chale beach is one of the beaches on the island of the same name. Located 60 km south of Mombasa near the Tanzanian border, this island is easily accessible by boat at high tide or by tractor at low tide.

This little paradise is home to forests, beaches and mangroves forming a unique ecosystem. On land, you may encounter baboons, Colobus monkeys and numerous tropical birds. Many hiking trails allow you to explore the island. As for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts, Chale's waters are teeming with fish.

7. Vipingo beach and Kuruwitu beach

Located around thirty kilometers north of Mombasa, Vipingo and Kuruwitu beaches are perfect for those wanting to escape the crowds. Surrounded by lush vegetation and lined with numerous coconut palms, these beaches are often deserted. Perfect for resting and swimming in peace.

Once again, the lagoon waters, protected by a coral reef, offer wonderful underwater discoveries. There's another marine sanctuary here: the Kuruwitu Conservation and Welfare Association (KCWA), whose role is to promote marine conservation and protect the region's natural resources, including sea turtles.

8. Dunga beach

We finish with an unexpected beach, as it's not located on the coast but on the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest freshwater lake! It's the beach of a charming fishing village called Dunga. An opportunity to learn more about the lives of fishermen and local residents.

Dunga beach is also a paradise for birdwatchers. Indeed, it's recognized as an Important Bird Conservation Area with approximately 800 bird species recorded.
